Sephora : Beauty Roulette

For the last three holiday seasons, I have worked with Sephora to create web-site promotional campaigns. Leveraging their Facebook page, internal network (Employee Appreciation), and general site traffic we have created a smashing hit! These promotions are a huge success and generate tremendous attention.

Out of all of the promotions created, The Beauty Roulette was the most interesting. Users could actually spin a roulette wheel to receive a prize (and come back daily to try again for the big one). The wheel would animate, spin faster on click, and settle on one of five prizes. This was all done through jQuery/AJAX for the front-end, PHP for the back-end (security and email validation), and MySQL for prize tracking. Sephora specified percentages chances for each spin and we awarded prizes against a real inventory.
The sites worked on all browsers and mobile devices. One of the requirements was compatibility with old Internet Explorers, which presented many challenges requiring difficult work-arounds.
